In an inspiring turn of events, Yemi Mobolade, a Nigerian-American businessman, has etched his name in history by becoming the 42nd Mayor of Colorado Springs. Running as a political independent candidate, Mobolade's journey is a testament to the power of determination and the realization that dreams truly are valid, regardless of one's background. This blog post delves into his remarkable story, highlighting the challenges he overcame and the impact he aims to make as a leader.

Yemi Mobolade's journey began when he moved to Colorado Springs in 2010, in a city of nearly 485,000 residents, known for its military bases and strong presence of evangelical Christianity. He married a nurse with whom he shared three young children. Driven by a passion for uplifting others, Mobolade embarked on various entrepreneurial ventures. He founded a church, co-founded the Good Neighbors Meeting House, and The Wild Goose Meeting House, both vibrant establishments in the Colorado Springs area. In addition, he co-founded Niche Coaching and Consulting, leveraging his expertise to promote economic development and assist small businesses.
Throughout his election campaign, Mobolade placed a strong emphasis on key issues affecting the community. He advocated for hiring more police officers to ensure public safety, creating affordable housing to address housing challenges, conserving water resources for a sustainable future, and reducing bureaucratic hurdles for businesses to thrive. His commitment to these critical concerns reflects his dedication to building a prosperous and inclusive Colorado Springs.
During his inauguration ceremony, Mobolade encapsulated the significance of his victory by stating, "I am a Black leader. I am a Black mayor. I am an immigrant mayor." His words resonate deeply because they represent the hopes and aspirations of countless young black and minority children who now find inspiration and hope in his remarkable story. Yemi Mobolade serves as a beacon of possibility, reinforcing Lupita Nyong'o's powerful statement, "No matter where you're from, your dreams are valid."
My hope is that Yemi Mobolade's story serves as a powerful motivator, showing that barriers can be overcome, if we put our mind to it and do the work. As Mobolade leads his community, he aims to foster positive change and inspire future generations to dream big and achieve their goals. In celebrating his historic achievement, we can acknowledge that true transformation is possible when individuals stand up for what they believe in and strive for a better tomorrow.
Truly Yours,
