The Surprising Connection Between Affirmations and Memories: Rewiring Your Mind for Success"

Updated: Oct 24, 2024

An affirmation is the key that opens the door to change. It serves as a starting point on the path to transformation. Affirmations go beyond the reality of the present and allow us to create a future through the power of words in the present moment. The more we repeat these affirmations, the stronger our belief in them becomes.

Personally, I have been using affirmations for some time now, but I haven't witnessed significant changes yet. Perhaps deep down, I struggle with the idea that merely claiming something will make it happen like magic. However, there is one affirmation by Louise Hay that I have consistently used, and a breakthrough occurred while I was taking a walk yesterday. Walking has become my creative moment, and I've noticed that great ideas flow in when I stick to this routine.

Returning to the topic of affirmations, I have discovered that for them to be effective, they need to be anchored to a memory. Ask yourself, "When did what I am affirming actually happen in my life?"

Let me elaborate further. Every time I go out or enter a building, I always repeat the affirmation, "Everyone is always helpful." This affirmation never fails to bring back a beautiful memory and allow me to relive it. At the beginning of 2023, I entered an Arabic shop to purchase some yogurt I was craving. I picked up the bottle and went to the cashier to pay, but he informed me that they only accepted cash. Undeterred, I asked if it was possible to use a popular payment app we have here in Malaysia. He reiterated that it was cash only.

I desperately wanted that yogurt and tried to figure out an alternative solution. Then, to my surprise, the girl standing right behind me in the queue overheard the conversation and offered to pay for it. She said, "Put it on my bill; I will pay for it." I looked at her, bewildered. Despite our visible differences in ethnicity and nationality, this stranger showed me the true essence of humanity—how we can connect on a human level. I was almost in tears, humbled and grateful, and I gained a memory I will cherished forever. Although the amount was insignificant in the grand scheme of things, her act of kindness was priceless.

Now, whenever I say the affirmation "Everyone is always helpful," my brain retrieves this heartwarming memory from the bank of experiences. The emotion I feel is genuine and based on a lived experience. It is true that everyone is helpful, and I have begun to witness more and more acts of kindness from strangers. The road cleaners greet me every morning as I pass by them, and the security personnel at my office warmly ask if I have had breakfast or lunch. These gestures warm my heart and make my soul smile.

So, my simple question to you is: What affirmations do you use daily? Can you relate them to a memory that positively affects your mood, reinforcing the truth behind these affirmations?

Another example of an affirmation I use, also from Louise Hay, is "My income is constantly increasing." I can relate this affirmation to the money I earn while I sleep through my online businesses. By attaching the affirmation to a memory, I can reinforce the belief and experience more abundance.

I hope the above suggestions are helpful. Please give them a try and let me know in the comments below how it goes for you.

With all my heart,

Salima
