"You are today where your thoughts have brought you. You will be tomorrow where your thoughts will take you". - James Allen

After what happened with my manager, I was left feeling utterly miserable. It was as if the weight of the world was pressing down on my shoulders, suffocating any flicker of hope that remained. But just when I thought all was lost, a glimmer of light pierced through the darkness—my company introduced a mentorship program. It was a stroke of serendipity, or perhaps destiny at play. They say that when the student is ready, the master will appear, and in that moment, I knew I was ready for something radically different in my life.
I eagerly signed up for the mentorship program, desperate for a lifeline to pull me out of the depths of despair. I yearned for guidance, for a fresh perspective, but most importantly, for someone who could understand the turmoil I was going through. The first one-on-one meeting arrived, and as soon as I began to speak, a torrent of complaints poured forth from my lips. The sound of my own voice became unbearable, a painful reminder of the person I had become.
But my mentor, patient and attentive, listened intently without judgment. And then, with a simple question, he shattered the walls I had built around myself: "Why are you making yourself so miserable?" The words hung in the air, echoing in the recesses of my mind. In that moment, I realized that I had been my own worst enemy, allowing negativity to consume me from within.
As I left that first session, a mixture of heaviness and newfound hope accompanied me home. I knew deep within that I needed a fundamental shift in my mindset. I delved into online research, desperately seeking a beacon of inspiration to guide me on my journey of transformation. And that's when I stumbled upon two books by John C. Maxwell: "JumpStart Your Growth: A 90-Day Improvement Plan" and "JumpStart Your Thinking: A 90-Day Improvement Plan."
Within the pages of "JumpStart Your Thinking," John C. Maxwell eloquently articulated the importance of our thoughts in shaping our lives. He emphasized that it matters not what job we hold; it is our mindset that truly determines our success. Good thinking, he professed, has the power to not only enhance our lives but also propel us toward greatness.
And so, my growth journey commenced. It has been nearly five years since that pivotal moment, and I am still a work in progress. I won't sugarcoat it—transforming oneself, particularly in the realm of mindset, takes time and unwavering dedication. But was it worth it? Absolutely. My only regret lies in the years I squandered, oblivious to the vast expanse of knowledge and understanding that eluded me.
