Meet Elizabeth Ogabi....

Updated: May 19, 2024

Stokely Carmichael known later as Kwame Ture urges Blacks to "Develop An Undying Love For Our People." I hang on to these words like oxygen and intend to live by them.

As someone who is passionate about empowering and inspiring the black community through storytelling, I am always on the lookout for inspiring individuals who are making a difference. Over the years, I have become more intentional about supporting black businesses and investing in black books, even though it can be challenging to practice the first when living in Southeast Asia.

Recently, while browsing the aisles of the Eslite Bookstore in Kuala Lumpur, I stumbled upon a book that caught my eye. It was called "Side Hustle In Progress: A practical Guide Of Kickstarting Your Business" by Elizabeth Ogabi. The author's name immediately resonated with me, and even though the book reviews were mixed, I knew I had to give her a chance.

After reading the book, I was blown away by the wisdom and practical advices it contained. Elizabeth Ogabi is a true inspiration and a force to be reckoned with. She is an entrepreneur, speaker, author, and podcaster who is dedicated to empowering women in all areas of their lives. In 2016, she founded For Working Ladies, a digital media platform that creates content to support women in building confidence in their careers, side hustles, and businesses. She also hosts the "How I Made It Happen" podcast, which provides advice for women in business. In 2019, she was named by The Dots UK as one of 100 women redefining the creative industry on International Women’s Day and was named UK Ambassador of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day established by the UN.

Elizabeth is a woman with a clear mission to advance and economically empower women, whether that be through starting a side hustle, breaking through the corporate glass ceiling, or pursuing full-time entrepreneurship. Her focus on launching leicour.com, a private membership network, is centered on accelerating mid-level women into leadership roles within organizations, with a particular emphasis on women of color.

To get to know Elizabeth better, I recommend buying and reading her book, listening to her podcast, checking out her Leicour project, or even leaving her a message on her Instagram @elizabethogabi, where she is known to respond to her followers.

It's important to celebrate the achievements of inspiring individuals like Elizabeth and to share their stories with the wider community. By doing so, we can inspire and uplift those around us, while changing the media narrative that often overlooks the amazing work being done by people of color.

Truly Yours,

The Queen Of Africa
