These last days, I have been speaking to a community of black women and asking them how do they handle negative thoughts, grudges and toxicity? I got out of these conversations some useful practical tips, an app recommendation Neurocycle -Brain Detox App and a book recommendation "Things That Matter: Overcoming Distraction to Pursue a More Meaningful Life by Joshua Becker" and journaling. It always goes back to that action of writing things down on paper, learning to think and solve problems on paper, such a powerful tool.
Journaling can be a helpful tool for managing and overcoming toxic thoughts. Here are some tips for using journaling to get rid of toxic thoughts:

Identify the toxic thoughts: Start by identifying the specific thoughts that are causing you distress. Write them down in your journal as they come to mind.
Challenge the thoughts: Once you've identified the toxic thoughts, challenge them. Ask yourself if the thought is based on fact or is it an assumption or a belief. Are there any alternative perspectives or explanations?
Reframe the thoughts: Once you've challenged the toxic thoughts, try to reframe them in a more positive or realistic light. For example, instead of telling yourself "I'm a failure", try reframing the thought as "I made a mistake but I can learn from it and do better next time".
Practice gratitude: In your journal, write down things you are grateful for. This will help shift your focus from negative thoughts to positive things in your life.
Create a positive self-talk statement: Write down a positive self-talk statement that you can repeat to yourself when the toxic thoughts start to creep in. This can be something as simple as "I am worthy and capable"
Find healthy outlets: Find healthy outlets to express your thoughts and feelings, such as exercise, art, or talking to a friend or therapist.
Lastly, be consistent: Journaling is a powerful tool for managing toxic thoughts, but it's important to be consistent and make it a regular practice. The more you journal, the more you'll be able to recognize and manage your toxic thoughts.

It's important to remember that toxic thoughts are a normal part of the human experience, and it takes time and effort to change them. Be kind and patient with yourself, and keep in mind that you have the power to change your thoughts and your life.
